A day in the garden, me trying to get the bonfire going, to no real joy until it was time to come in, but then still the fire refused to burn all of the rubbish.

Also, spent some of the day painting the seat by the pond, and spraying the roses against black spot.

Carol was planting some of the purchases from Saturday

Tree Down

This morning was spent cutting up a tree that was blown down in the high winds that we experienced yesterday.

While this was not the prettiest of trees, the apples that it produced are very good eaters, looking at the remains of the tree which seems to be rotten through the middle, I don’t think it will recover, so no more apples 

Once consolation is that while clearing the tree I had to brush past the Bay tree, releasing a wonderful smell, shame I cannot share this with you.

It's that time of the year

It’s that time of the year when the wasps and other insects start to take an interest in the plums that have fallen from the tree.

While I have not personal problem with these insects, unless we keep on top of clearing away the plums that have fallen the buzzing insect can become a real nuisance.

First Frost of the Year!

When I left for work this morning, a little before 7:00am, I was a little surprised to find the car a little iced up!

A Quiet Start to the Day

Looking out of my office window the day seems to start very quietly, the machine on my desk tells me it 12.7C, and 66% humidity, with every possibility that the day will be sunny, lets hope so after the wet of the past couple of weeks.

Our freind Sonja, who used to teach, always says that it is dry and fine for the first two weeks when teh children return to school in September, we will see.

August

August brings with it a sense of new character to the Garden, and a sense that the best may be over, but this is far from the case. While shrubs and foliage from trees may have passed their own best, and some of the perennials may have already gone to seed, many have yet to display their own best.
